Shift: 12-hour Days – 6:45 AM–7:15 PM
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week
Contract: 91 weeks

Required Qualifications

• Strong Med/Surg experience – REQUIRED
• EPIC experience – REQUIRED
• BLS (AHA) – REQUIRED
• NIHSS – REQUIRED
• Active nursing license required to submit
• BSN is NOT required
• ACLS/PALS: Recommended, not required

Unit Details

• Unit: Med/Surg
• Beds: 32 total; currently 20 due to staffing
• RN-to-patient ratio: Maximum 1:5
• Nurse aides: 3 per shift

Patient Population

• CHF
• Pneumonia
• Abdominal pain
• Pancreatitis
• Orthopedic patients
• Detox patients
• Post-op/surgical patients
• Pediatric patients
• Other general Med/Surg patients

Does not take: Laboring mothers, titratable cardiac drips, or titratable insulin drips.

Telemetry / Monitoring

• ICU monitors perform the monitoring/reading.
• Telemetry information is faxed to Med/Surg for the nurse to document.
• RNs do not need to independently read the telemetry strips.

Respiratory Equipment

• CPAP
• BiPAP
• High-flow oxygen
• RT assists with and manages these patients/equipment.

Scheduling

• 12-hour day shifts: 6:45 AM–7:15 PM
• Manager creates the schedule.
• Extra shifts may be available.
• Manager is open to block scheduling based on traveler preferences.
• Every other weekend is required.
• Holidays rotate with regular staff.
• No call/standby.

Floating

Floating is required. Med/Surg nurses may float to other units to assist as a tasker or provide additional support.

Scrubs

• Any scrub color is acceptable.
• No camouflage or orange.
• Scrubs are not provided.

Orientation

• Unit tour and introductions
• Policy review
• EPIC/Meditech training as applicable
• Pharmacy and lab training
• 3–5 days of unit training

Cancellation Policy

• 13 weeks or more: Maximum 2 shifts
• 12 weeks or less: Maximum 1 shift
