RN – Medical Oncology | Nights
Location: Aurora, CO 80045
Job Location: Aurora, CO 80045
Shift: Nights | 3×12 Hours | 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
Unit: Medical Oncology / GYN-Oncology / Palliative / Med-Tele
Beds: 36
Charting: Epic
Position Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of acute care RN experience
- Colorado or Compact RN License required
- BLS required
- OCN or ONS/ONCC certification is preferred but not required
- First-time travelers are welcome
- Prior inpatient oncology experience preferred
- Trauma Level II experience required
- Must be comfortable working with flexible nurse-to-patient ratios
- Must be willing to float within scope and potentially to sister facilities based on facility needs
- No on-call requirement
Shift & Scheduling
- Night Shift: 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
- 3×12-hour shifts
- Weekend coverage required based on unit needs
- Approximately 6 weekend shifts per 6 weeks
- No block scheduling
Patient Ratios
- Day: 1:4
- Night: 1:5
- Ratios may increase depending on staffing and unit needs. Candidates should be comfortable working in flexible staffing environments.
Key Oncology Skills
Experience with the following is highly preferred:
- Chemotherapy administration and monitoring
- IV push and continuous chemotherapy
- Oral chemotherapy
- Management and access of ports
- Central lines and PICC lines
- Blood and blood product administration
- Starting and maintaining IVs
- Central-line blood draws
- Recognition and management of oncologic emergencies
- Tumor lysis syndrome
- Extravasation
- Anaphylaxis
- Hemorrhage
- Sepsis
- Spinal cord compression
- Neutropenic precautions
- Recognition and communication of abnormal lab values
Additional Clinical Skills
- Symptom and pain management
- IV push narcotics
- PCA pump management
- Antiemetics and antibiotics
- Foley catheter care
- Wound care
- Chest tube management
- Colostomy/ileostomy care
- Phlebotomy
- Post-surgical care
- Isolation precautions/PPE
- Hospice and palliative care
- Management of nausea, vomiting, neuropathy, edema, constipation/diarrhea, and altered mental status
Unit Information
This is a 36-bed adult oncology unit providing care across:
- Inpatient Oncology
- GYN Oncology
- Palliative Care
- Medical Telemetry
Support Services
The unit has support from Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Pharmacy, Phlebotomy, Radiology, Social Services, Rapid Response Teams, Interpretation Services, Transportation, and Unit Secretary staff.
Certification Requirements
Required:
- BLS
- Active Colorado or Compact RN License
Preferred:
- ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Certification
- OCN Certification
Important Candidate Requirements
Candidates should have strong acute-care experience and be comfortable caring for oncology patients in a fast-paced inpatient environment. Epic experience is required, and candidates must be comfortable with floating and flexible patient ratios.
