Description

Title: Surg Assistant

Location: Oak Lawn Illinois 60453

Duration: 13 Weeks

Shift: 8hr Day Shift (32)

Shift Information: Schedule will be 4-8's between Monday and Friday 0645 start.

Clinical Interviewing- Schedule will be 4-8's between Monday and Friday 0645 start.

On Call, Call Back Requirements: Dependent on shifts/service line. 30 min. response time required. Sleeping room available for on call team member.

Weekend Rotation: Every 4th weekend (Sat-Sun)

Holiday Requirements: Holiday coverage required.

Unit Information:

  • Beds: 28 (2 hybrid room for CV/Vascular)
  • Census: Average patients/day: Approximately 60-75 cases per day

Minimum Years of Experience required: 2-3 years of acute care experience (unless IR Hybrid Tech, then 3 years of hybrid experience)

  • Will you accept a first-time traveler: Yes

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

  • Outpatient, inpatient, trauma
  • GSW, stabbings, transplant (kidney, hearts), donor cases, general, GYN, urology, robotics, vascular, ortho, neuro, open hearts/CABGS
  • Hybrid Room: sees between 5-10 cases/day, depending onw hat cases are scheduled. Adults only. TAVR, AAA, Endarterectomies, angiograms, fistula revisions,
  • 20% pediatric (open hearts, appy, chole)
  • No liver or lung transplant
  • Participates in Gifts of Hope cases

Required License, National Certification, Certs (BLS, ACLS, etc.), or other position specific requirements such as Driver's License and/or Insurance:

  • OR/CVOR RN: BLS
  • Surg Tech/CVOR Surg tech: BLS, CST
  • Hybrid IR Tech: BLS, ARRT
  • Surg Assist: BLS, CSA

Skills required:

  • OR RN: experience with above case types, able to scrub and circulate, critical care experience (preferred), trauma experience at least at a level 1-2; EPIC experience required.
  • CVOR RN: able to scrub and circulate ADULT or PEDS open-heart cases (manager will specify in posting) cases, critical care experience, Level 1 trauma experience; EPIC experience required.
  • CST: able to scrub the above cases.
  • CVOR Tech: able to scrub ADULT or PEDS open-heart cases (manager will specify in posting)
  • Hybrid IR Tech: Need to have experience in above hybrid patient types; Siemens equipment experience required.
  • SA: MUST be comfortable performing Surgical Assist and Surgical Tech duties. Please confirm in interview and document in offer email that this was discussed.

Support within the Department:

  • Charge nurse: no patient assignment (M-F) able to assist on weekends and evenings.
  • Bedside monitoring by anesthesiologist
  • Resource Nurse
  • Surgeons (have preference cards)
  • ANM
  • Educators
  • Service line reps
  • EPIC super-user

Technology/Equipment:

  • EMR: EPIC
  • IV Pump: Alaris
  • Med dispensing: Pyxis

Floating: If yes, where:

  • None

Orientation (facility and unit) :

  • 1st day: meet the educators and ANM, gain login access, online modules, EPIC training.
  • 2nd-3rd: unit orientation

Scheduling:

  • Weekend rotation: every 4th weekend (Sat-Sun)
  • Shifts Times:
    • 0645-1515
    • 1445-1915
    • 2245-0715
    • 3x 12h
    • 2x8H; 2x 12H
    • 5x8h
  • RT/Hybrid: M-Thurs 8/10H shifts
  • 6-week schedule, will receive 2-4 ahead
  • Schedule is rotation based
  • No self-scheduling; will be plugged in where they are needed based on the rotation
  • OR is open 24/7, 365 days a year
  • OR operates M-F 0730-2300. After 2300 skeleton crew for trauma and urgent cases only
  • Sat-Sun 0700-1700, after 1700 skeleton crew for trauma and urgent cases only
  • All RTO must be emailed to Cassie Ciavarella
  • Holiday Requirements: Holiday coverage required.
  • On-Call: Dependent on shifts/service line. 30 min. response time required. Sleeping room available for on call team member.
