Description
- Job Title: IMC/PCU/Stepdown - RN (Travel Contract)
- Specialty: Progressive Care / Stepdown / IMCU
- Location: Des Moines, Iowa (Blank Children's Hospital / UnityPoint Health – Iowa Methodist Medical Center)
- Shift: Nights (36 hours/week; mandatory floating across all campuses including Iowa Methodist MC and Iowa Lutheran)

Position Summary Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse needed for a 25-bed unit handling heavy neuro trauma, neurosurgery, craniectomy, and orthopedic patients (ratios 1:5–6 on nights). Responsibilities include managing drips (Heparin, PCA, 3% Sodium/Na), utilizing specialty equipment like chest tubes and Airvo, and charting via Epic EMR. Navy blue solid scrubs required.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum 24 months of Medical Surgical, IMCU, Stepdown, or Progressive Care experience in a hospital setting required, including specific neurology/neurosurgery and orthopedic care experience
- Prior travel experience required (must have completed at least one travel assignment in the previous 12 months; no first-time travelers)
- Required Drip & Technical Skills: Heparin, PCA, 3% Sodium/Na drips, and EKG/strip reading & telemetry
- Active Iowa license or compact/multistate license via Nursys, AHA ACLS, and AHA/ARC BLS required in hand at submission
- Compliance & Submission Rules: Strict no-local policy (>50 miles from facility based on driver's license); employee separation policy applies for past UPH FTE/PRN staff within 12 months

Cons
Lack benefits and perks other companies offer. Was incorrectly paid more than once. The assignment was the worst I’ve experienced from management down to housekeeping. They nitpick travelers on every level and give them double the respiratory therapist to patient ratio with every assignment spread over multiple floors and areas on every side of the facility. Staff makes no attempt at teamwork. Bottom line: Malone is ok🥴 but has MUCH room to improve. Elizabethtown, KY is awful and puts their patients and your license at risk every shift. Don’t do it!
