Telemetry RN — Unit Overview
- Department: Telemetry | RN
- Unit: Tele
- Beds: 27 currently; 10 additional beds planned for June
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4
- Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
Patient Population / Common Diagnoses
Commonly encountered diagnoses and patient types include:
- CHF
- NSTEMI / STEMI
- Stroke
- Sepsis
- Diabetes
- CAD
- Renal failure
- Respiratory failure
- Pneumothorax
- Post-cath lab patients
Post-cath experience: RNs will not pull sheaths, but experience with TR bands and FemStops is strongly preferred.
RN Experience Requirements
Minimum: 2 years of Telemetry RN experience.
Candidates must have experience with:
- Cardiac drips
- NIHSS/stroke assessments
- Post-cath recovery
- Chest tubes
Cardiac Drips
- RNs do not titrate drips on this unit.
- Common drips include set-rate diltiazem and amiodarone.
- Epinephrine and nitroglycerin are not used on this floor.
Telemetry / Monitoring
- Telemetry techs are currently located on the unit.
- Beginning in June, monitoring will be centralized off-site.
- RNs will read and document telemetry every 6 hours.
- Current system: SpaceLab
- Planned transition: Philips
Support Staff
- Charge Nurse: Yes; does not take patients.
- House Supervisor: Yes; does not take patients.
- Nurse Aides: Yes, approximately 1:8–9 ratio.
- RT: Available for respiratory support.
- Equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen; RT manages these modalities.
Scheduling
- Day: 0700–1930
- Night: 1900–0730
- Travelers are placed into the slots where the unit has staffing needs.
- Requests are considered when possible, but unit needs take priority.
- Shift trades with peers are permitted.
- Block scheduling is not available.
Weekends, Holidays & Call
- Weekend requirement: Yes; travelers will fill staffing needs.
- Holiday requirement: Yes; travelers will fill staffing needs.
- Call: None
- Standby: None
Floating
Travelers may float to:
- Like units
- Med/Surg
- Boise Medical Center — like units/Med-Surg as needed
- Nampa Medical Center — like units/Med-Surg as needed
- ICU, if the traveler has appropriate ICU experience
Uniform
- Any scrub color
- Scrubs must be clean, well-kept, and professional.
Orientation
- System onboarding
- 2 unit orientation shifts
