ACLS (AHA or ARC), BLS (AHA or ARC), NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), PALS, STABLE Certification

7p-7a, weekends as needed, first to float

 

Unit Notes

Unit/Department Clinical Support Unit, Float Pool L&D What units are included in the float pool? "RNs will only float within women's services: antepartum, L&D and postpartum for full assignments. Can be floated to any facility in the region: Boise, Meridian, and Nampa, within specialty" Do you follow AWHONN guidelines for ratios? yes, 1:6 for couplet care in post partum Required Certifications (i.e., BLS, ACLS?) NRP, BLS, ACLS, AWHONN fetal monitoring classes (STABLE?- perm staff need it) Common diagnoses/Types of patients "Antepartum: any gestation 22+ weeks, L&D: PPROM, placenta previa, pre-c, diabetes, twins, high risk patients RN do not have to circulate for c-sections or recover RN to transition mom and baby independently if NICU is not available to assist postpartum: full couplet assignment, and will do car seat study" Experience or 'Must have' skills: Must have L&D, PP, and antepartum experience Prefer being able to circulate the OR Must have a minimum of 3+ years experience No first time travelers Should be an excellent communicator, know chain of command and how to use resources Are RNs required to titrate drips? Yes Common titratable &/or set rate drips "Pitocin commonly used 1-20mL/units, may go up to 40mL/units Insulin, Mag" Is there a Charge Nurse on each shift & on each unit? "Charge nurse on all units" Are there nurse aids/patient care techs on the units? Ratios? Duties? surgical techs, occasionally on floors depending on shifts and units, less frequent at night RT Equipment (Vents, Cpap, BiPap, High Flow, etc.) Are RNs required to do anything with these besides trouble shoot? PPV only, NICU resource goes to all deliveries. OB/Neonatologist in house 24/7? OB Laborist and Neonatologist 24/7- at one location at least, and can get there right away Anesthesia in house 24/7? Yes, we have a designated CRNA 24/7 Are there tele/monitor techs on the units? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? "No tele techs-if we have pts on Tele the Tele Techs read the cardiac strips fetal strips" Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) "4 x 12s 06:45-19:30 and 1845-0730 No self-scheduling. Can trade shifts, but manager to move around if needed RTO requests up front Weekend Requirements every other Will be working up to unit norms but not more than every other weekend Holiday Requirements We try to not schedule travelers but there may be an occasional time we need to do that Is there a call or standby requirement? no How are units assigned? i.e. via text message, daily sheet assignments, set schedule? "Travelers will have an app, 1 hour before shift starts will see what hospital and unit you are going to. All hospitals are about 20 minutes apart, all are right off the interstate, safe parking available at all locations Travelers will be 1st to float can midshift float- can float at any time during shift to different units and facilities, whenever there is a need" Scrub Color/Dress Code Scrubs are provided How many shifts of unit/department specific orientation? "1 shift at each site to be 4-5 shifts: 1 Nampa, L&D PP process 1 Meridan 1 Boise 1 partial in ante at Boise and will cover each area-LD, Antepartum, and OR" Need excellent communication. Check emails and over communicate. Managers not in the building but leadership available for support. Rounding manager physically not on site. Travelers to use Chain of command, know resources, communication, advocate. Additional Notes "Very great culture, all facilities have easy access and easy parking Most people ask about where they should live- Meridian Medical Center is central to all locations."
