Description

NICU RN – Level IV | CHKD

Unit: Level IV NICU
Beds: 70
Shift: 12-hour nights
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week
Weekends: Every other weekend
Holidays: As needed
Interview: Nurse Manager interview
EMR: Cerner
Orientation: 2–3 shifts

Unit Details

  • 50 private rooms
  • 10 double-occupancy rooms
  • RN Ratios: 1:2 or 1:3
  • Primary nursing model
  • May float to PICU, but will be assigned patients appropriate to NICU skillset

Patient Population

NICU cares for high-acuity neonates including:

  • Prematurity 22–36 weeks
  • HIE
  • Seizures, hydrocephalus, neural tube defects
  • Congenital cardiac lesions including PDA, Tetralogy of Fallot, coarctation, and truncus
  • RDS, TTN, and BPD
  • Renal conditions including hydronephrosis
  • NEC, Hirschsprung’s, reflux, and other GI disorders
  • Tracheostomies
  • GI ostomies
  • TEF, congenital diaphragmatic hernia, and other congenital anomalies

Procedures

  • Occasional bedside surgeries
  • PDA ligation
  • Chest tube management
  • Penrose drains

Requirements

  • BLS
  • NRP
  • Strong Level III/IV NICU experience preferred given the acuity and 22-week gestational population
