Description
Respiratory Therapist (RRT/CRT):
Facility: Akron Campus
Address: 141 N. Forge St., Akron, OH 44304
Setting: Adult Acute Care – Level I Trauma Center
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
Shift Length: 12.5 hours
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Respiratory Therapist to provide respiratory care to adult patients in an acute-care, Level I Trauma Center setting. The Respiratory Therapist will assess patients, administer respiratory treatments, manage ventilatory support, respond to emergencies, and collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective patient care.
Required Education:
- Graduate of an A.M.A.- or CoARC-approved Respiratory Therapy program
- Registry eligible
Required Licensure & Certification:
- Valid Ohio Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license issued by the State Medical Board of Ohio
- Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)
- Current BLS certification
- RRT preferred
- CRT candidates may be considered if they are registry eligible and have appropriate respiratory care experience.
Clinical Setting:
- All-adult acute care facility
- Level I Trauma Center
- Experience with critically ill and acute-care adult patients is highly preferred.
Primary Equipment:
Experience with the following equipment is preferred:
- Puritan Bennett (PB) 980 – Mechanical Ventilator
- Puritan Bennett (PB) 840 – Mechanical Ventilator
- V60 – Noninvasive Ventilator
- EPOC – Handheld Blood Gas Analyzer
- ParaPacPlus – Transport Ventilator
Key Responsibilities:
- Verify physician orders and assess patients for the appropriateness of prescribed respiratory treatments.
- Assess, evaluate, document, and monitor patients' tolerance and response to respiratory therapy.
- Recognize unusual reactions or changes in patient condition and promptly notify the appropriate physician, nurse, or hospital staff.
- Explain respiratory treatments and procedures to patients and address questions or concerns.
- Perform respiratory and pulmonary procedures according to department policies and protocols.
- Respond to medical emergencies and participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
- Set up, operate, and maintain respiratory care equipment.
- Administer medical gases and respiratory medications as ordered.
- Assist with maintaining adequate supplies, equipment, and respiratory medications.
- Complete appropriate billing documentation for respiratory services provided.
- Maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and healthcare staff.
- Participate in multidisciplinary patient-care teams and quality improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of respiratory care policies and procedures.
- Participate in educational activities for patients, families, students, healthcare professionals, and the community.
- Attend in-services, meetings, and conferences to remain current with respiratory care techniques, equipment, and procedures.
- Maintain competency and proficiency in Respiratory Care skills in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will have strong acute-care respiratory therapy experience, preferably in a Level I Trauma Center, and be comfortable caring for critically ill adult patients requiring mechanical ventilation and noninvasive respiratory support.
