Description
CHKD's NICU is a Level IV, 70-Bed unit.
SHIFT: 12N, EOW, holidays as needed
NM will interview
50 private rooms, plus 10 rooms with two beds each
Top 10 Diagnosis/Procedures:
1. Prematurity (22-36 weeks)
2. HIE
3. Neurological Disorders (Seizures, Hydrocephalus, Neural tube defect, etc.)
4. Cardiac Lesions (PDA, Tet, Coarct, Truncus, etc.)
5. Respiratory Issues (RDS, TTN, BPD, etc.)
6. Renal (hydronephrosis, etc.)
7. GI Issues (GI reflux, NEC, Hirschsprung's, etc.)
8. Tracheostomies
9. GI Ostomies
10. Anomalies ( TEF, CDH, etc.)
Special Procedures on the unit: Occasional bedside surgeries - PDA ligation, Chest tubes, Penrose drains
Nurse Ratio: 1:2 or 1:3
Areas that require floating: PICU (assigned similar patient population to the NICU)
Patient delivery system: Primary nursing
Computerized charting: Cerner
Required Certifications: BLS, NRP
Length of orientation: 2-3 shifts
