Description

Position Overview

We are seeking a Board Certified Perfusionist to provide onsite cardiovascular perfusion services at the Richmond VA Healthcare System, 1201 Broad Rock Blvd, Richmond, VA 23249, in support of a Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Resources contract. This is a full-time, single-incumbent position covering all cardiac surgical perfusion, ECMO, and related procedures for the facility. Standard duty hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with required on-call coverage for emergent cases during off-hours, weekends, and federal holidays. All services are performed onsite; this is not a remote position.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and manage cardiopulmonary bypass, ECMO, and related extracorporeal circulation equipment for cardiac surgical and emergent procedures.
  • Provide perfusion services meeting or exceeding standards established by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP).
  • Maintain 24/7/365 on-call availability (including weekends and federal holidays) for emergent cardiac and ECMO cases, with ability to reach the facility within 30 minutes of call.
  • Coordinate with the surgical team, COR, and facility clinical staff on case scheduling, equipment readiness, and patient safety protocols.
  • Complete all VA-mandated clinical, cybersecurity, and patient privacy training within required timeframes.
  • Maintain current credentialing, licensure, and privileging documentation (VETPRO) throughout the contract period.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Current Board Certification in Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP / CCP).
  • Current, unencumbered license in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification through the American Heart Association.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Demonstrated experience in adult cardiac surgical perfusion; ECMO experience required.
  • Ability to pass VA background investigation (NAC) and obtain PIV credentialing prior to start.

Compensation

$124–$140/hour, depending on experience and certifications. Rate applies to standard scheduled hours; overtime and on-call/standby coverage are compensated separately per contract terms.
