Description

ECMO Pump Specialist RN – Pediatric ICU Float

Experience: Minimum 2 years required
First-Time Travelers: Accepted
Required Certifications: BLS, PALS
Required Skill: Cardiohelp experience
EMR: Epic preferred
Patient Ratio: 1:2
Orientation: 36 hours
Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd weekend
RTO: Up to 2 pre-approved requests

 

Position Overview

Seeking an experienced RN to work as an ECMO Pump Specialist managing pediatric and neonatal patients requiring ECMO for cardiac and non-cardiac conditions.

RN must have experience independently managing:

  • VA ECMO
  • VV ECMO
  • Cardiohelp ECMO systems
  • ECMO pump monitoring and troubleshooting
  • Practice drills and ongoing ECMO competency requirements

Float Requirements

When not assigned to an ECMO patient, the RN will work as a bedside ICU nurse based on staffing needs and may float between:

  • NICU
  • PICU
  • CVPICU / Cardiac ICU

Candidates must be comfortable caring for cardiac, non-cardiac, pediatric, infant, and neonatal ICU patients.

Clinical Skills

Strong critical care experience expected, including:

  • ECMO management
  • Ventilator management
  • Arterial and central lines
  • Continuous IV sedation
  • Cardiac and vasoactive drip titration
  • Blood product administration
  • ABG interpretation
  • Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
  • HFNC / BiPAP / CPAP
  • Post-cardiac surgery care
  • Multisystem organ failure
  • Procedural sedation
  • IV and PICC management

Unit Details

  • Patient population: Neonates, infants, pediatrics
  • Average daily census: 18
  • Approximately 32 rooms
  • Typical ratio: 1:2
  • Dedicated ECMO team responsible for pump management
  • Extensive interdisciplinary support including Respiratory Therapy, Pharmacy, IV Team, Rapid Response, Radiology, PT, Social Services, Phlebotomy and more

Travel / Compliance Notes

  • 100-mile radius rule
  • Locals are not accepted
  • Former permanent employees are not eligible to return as travelers
  • Flu vaccine required — medical/religious exemptions permitted
  • COVID-19 vaccine not required

Recruiter Notes

Cardiohelp experience is a hard requirement. Best fit is an experienced pediatric ECMO/critical care RN who can independently manage VA and VV ECMO and is comfortable working bedside in NICU, PICU, and cardiac ICU environments when ECMO coverage is not needed.
