RN Hospice Director/Administrator – Uvalde, TX


Position Overview

We’re seeking an experienced Registered Nurse Hospice Director/Administrator for a Temp-to-Perm opportunity in Uvalde, TX.

This leadership position is ideal for an RN with hospice experience who is ready to oversee clinical operations, staff, compliance, quality, financial performance, and community relationships while ensuring compassionate, high-quality end-of-life care.

Key Responsibilities

Department Leadership & Operations

  • Direct daily hospice department operations and ensure delivery of quality hospice services.
  • Develop strategic plans, establish departmental goals, and monitor performance outcomes.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Keep hospice policies and procedures current.
  • Serve as a liaison between hospice services, healthcare organizations, hospitals, physicians, agencies, and the community.
  • Provide direct patient care when needed.

Clinical Leadership & Patient Care

  • Serve as the responsible RN leader for hospice services.
  • Ensure patient care aligns with hospice philosophy, patient and family needs, and interdisciplinary plans of care.
  • Oversee the quality and continuity of patient services.
  • Promote effective communication among all personnel involved in patient care.
  • Support communication and feedback mechanisms for patients and families.

Staff Management & Development

  • Interview, hire, onboard, and train hospice staff.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and take corrective or disciplinary action when appropriate.
  • Oversee staffing and scheduling to meet departmental needs.
  • Support continuing education and professional development.
  • Maintain accurate payroll and timecard records in accordance with FLSA requirements.

Financial & Quality Oversight

  • Develop, manage, and monitor the department’s annual budget.
  • Oversee billing reconciliation, medication discrepancies, and charge management.
  • Lead performance improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor departmental quality metrics and outcomes.
  • Ensure licensed personnel practice within their defined scope of practice.

Community Engagement & Public Relations

  • Develop and implement strategies to promote hospice services.
  • Represent hospice services at community events, health fairs, open houses, and professional meetings.
  • Build relationships with clergy, faith-based organizations, and community groups to help support patient and family needs.
  • Keep organizational leadership informed of hospice activities, performance, and outcomes.

Regulatory & Organizational Compliance

  • Participate in and lead committees as assigned.
  • Appoint a qualified alternate to oversee operations during periods of absence.
  • Complete required hospice administration training, including areas such as:
    • Fraud prevention
    • Patient/client rights
    • Disaster planning
    • Infection control
    • Regulatory compliance

Qualifications

Required

  • Active Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Ability to provide clinical leadership and oversee hospice operations.
  • Willingness to provide direct patient care when needed.
  • Completion of an additional 16 hours of hospice-specific administrative education within 12 months of hire.

Preferred

  • BSN or Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • 2+ years of hospice administration experience.
  • Previous hospice leadership or administrative experience.
