Description
Job Title: Registered Nurse - Med Surg / Tele (Unit: 5 West)

Location: Nebraska Medicine, Omaha, Nebraska (4350 Dewey Ave)

Compensation & Schedule Details
- Hours & Shift: 48 hours per week (4 x 12-hour Nights, 1900–0730; 36-hour or 48-hour and 13 or 26-week contract options available).
- Contract Length: 13 or 26 weeks (contracts end on Sunday).
- Target Start Date: September 21, 2026
- Scheduling: 4 weekend shifts out of 8 in a 4-week period (Nights: Friday and Saturday night). Must work 2 out of 3 major winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's).
- RTO Policy: Up to 2 weeks of RTO permitted and must be submitted with application (none during the first week of orientation).
Key Facility Policies & Compliance Mandates
- Radius & Local Policy: Strict 100-mile radius restriction. Local candidates are NOT accepted. No first-time travelers accepted (unless they have 2 years of experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center).
- Team-Based Care Model: Unit 5 West utilizes a team-based model combining bedside RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and Virtual Nurses (who handle admin/discharge paperwork and dual sign-offs). Note that patient ratios reflect this model (Nights: 1:9).
- Floating & Parking: Travelers are the first to float and must be prepared to float frequently across hospital units (including Bellevue campus). Parking permits cost approx. $55/month or daily rate parking ($3 for 20 hours).
- Nicotine-Free Policy: 100% nicotine-free facility.
- Dress Code: Mandatory Steel Gray scrubs with the Nebraska Medicine logo printed on the back.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of prior Telemetry experience required in a large, urban hospital.
- Licensure: Active Nebraska RN license or compact state license (pending licenses accepted, but if not in hand at submittal, traveler will be booked six weeks out).
- Certifications: AHA BLS required.
- Charting: Epic charting experience required.

Cons
Lack benefits and perks other companies offer. Was incorrectly paid more than once. The assignment was the worst I’ve experienced from management down to housekeeping. They nitpick travelers on every level and give them double the respiratory therapist to patient ratio with every assignment spread over multiple floors and areas on every side of the facility. Staff makes no attempt at teamwork. Bottom line: Malone is ok🥴 but has MUCH room to improve. Elizabethtown, KY is awful and puts their patients and your license at risk every shift. Don’t do it!
