Clinical Laboratory Scientist (AHCL)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) to support laboratory operations, ensure accurate and timely test results, maintain quality standards, and assist with regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Process STAT orders consistently, with results reported within one hour or as soon as available.
• Communicate critical values and test results to providers within 60 minutes and complete all required documentation.
• Perform clinical laboratory testing with a strong focus on accuracy, quality control, and attention to detail.
• Follow established laboratory procedures, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain a minimum 90% workload productivity and promptly report testing abnormalities or irregularities to the supervisor.
• Support the laboratory's ongoing readiness for regulatory surveys and inspections.
• Collect venous and arterial blood specimens as needed using proper aseptic techniques and patient identification procedures.
• Verify patient identity using at least two identifiers, including full name and date of birth, before specimen collection.
• Monitor QC processes and properly maintain laboratory instruments to ensure reliable and accurate results.
• Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate with AH Biomedical, vendors, and technical support when necessary.
• Maintain appropriate inventory levels of reagents, calibrators, controls, and laboratory supplies.
• Ensure all required competencies, licenses, certifications, and education requirements remain current.
• Verify specimens and test orders for the correct patient and test, and accurately complete test order entry.
• Supervise Laboratory Assistants as needed and provide support to the Director of Laboratory Services.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Schedule & Requirements

• Shift: Evening
• Start Time: 1:00 PM
• Schedule: 8-hour shift; may occasionally extend until approximately 10:00 PM
• Call: No Call
• EPIC experience: Required
• WellSky experience: Highly Preferred

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) in Medical Technology or a related science field required.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in all aspects of clinical laboratory operations.
• Must be currently licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) in California.

Physical & Work Environment

• Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing, reaching, sitting, walking, standing, talking, hearing, and repetitive hand movements may be required.
• Must have close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
• May occasionally lift laboratory boxes or supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Work involves the use of standard office equipment and laboratory instrumentation.
• Category 1 potential exposure to blood and body fluids; appropriate protective measures are required.
• Must comply with all HIPAA and confidentiality requirements.
