Travel Registered Nurse (RN)
Wyoming Long-Term Care & Veterans Care Assignments
Position Summary
Provide professional nursing services with independent clinical judgment in long-term care and veterans care settings. The RN assesses residents, manages care plans, administers medications and treatments, coordinates interdisciplinary care, communicates with providers and families, and may serve as charge nurse when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete head-to-toe and focused assessments, evaluate resident response to care, and update or implement nursing care plans.
- Prepare and administer medications, IV therapy, injections, respiratory treatments, wound care, catheter care, and other ordered treatments within the RN scope of practice.
- Review laboratory and consultation reports, collect specimens, assist physicians, process orders, and support admission/readmission documentation.
- Notify physicians, nursing leadership, and families of significant changes, transfers, hospitalizations, deaths, or treatment concerns in accordance with policy.
- Assign, train, and direct LPNs and CNAs; review completion of resident care and escalate performance or safety concerns.
- Serve as charge nurse or person in charge when assigned, including emergency, disaster, staffing, and coverage responsibilities.
- Participate in interdisciplinary meetings, quality assurance, accreditation, committee activities, and required education.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in nursing, as required by the solicitation, or Agency-approved equivalent if formally accepted.
- Active, unencumbered Wyoming RN license or qualifying compact license accepted by the Agency before placement.
- Current CPR/BLS certification; additional certifications may be required by facility or assignment.
- Strong assessment, medication administration, care planning, clinical documentation, leadership, and communication skills.
- Long-term care, skilled nursing, assisted living, geriatric, dementia, veterans care, or charge-nurse experience preferred.
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds and provide direct resident care when operationally required.
Travel Eligibility & Onboarding Requirements
- Active, unencumbered Wyoming license or certification for the role before placement.
- Required criminal background screening; facility-specific fingerprinting may include Wyoming DCI and FBI checks.
- Required registry and exclusion screenings, employment verification, and professional references.
- Current TB screening (two-step TB or IGRA, as accepted), required immunization documentation, and facility-required drug screening.
- Completion of required annual competencies and facility orientation, including abuse/neglect, resident rights, dementia care, infection control, communication, and behavioral health topics as applicable.
Important Assignment Conditions
- Candidate must generally maintain a permanent residence more than 100 miles from the assigned facility, unless the Agency approves an exception.
- All candidates are subject to facility review and approval before placement.
- Compensation, shift, weekly hours, travel arrangements, and any housing support will be stated in the written assignment offer. No stipend or housing benefit is guaranteed unless expressly included in that offer.
- Selected professional must comply with facility policies, resident-rights requirements, HIPAA, infection-control standards, and all applicable state and federal rules.

Anticipated Pay $45.00 per hour (base hourly rate)
Openings At least 2 anticipated in Buffalo, plus a portion of 8 combined RN/LPN openings in Basin; Basin's final RN/LPN split is pending
Assignment Term Up to 26 weeks; any extension beyond 26 weeks requires Agency approval
Start Window Candidate submissions anticipated in late August 2026; placements may begin in early September 2026 as current assignments expire
Orientation Facility orientation is paid; length varies by position and facility
Hours Weekly hours and guarantees vary by facility and will be confirmed before an offer is accepted

- Veterans' Home of Wyoming – Buffalo, WY | 2 | Skilled Nursing / Assisted Living | 12-hour day and night shifts.
- Wyoming Retirement Center – Basin, WY | TBD share of 8 | Skilled Nursing / Long-Term Care | 12.5-hour shifts: Day 5:30 AM–6:00 PM; Night 5:30 PM–6:00 AM; Float 8:00 AM–8:30 PM.
- Conduct specialized procedures such as suturing, tube feeding management, catheterization, and ventilator support while maintaining strict infection control protocols.
- Coordinate diagnostic evaluations including laboratory specimen collection/processing, radiology procedures like CT scans or sonography, and diagnostic coding (ICD-10/ICD-9).
- Manage complex cases involving trauma medicine at Level I or II trauma centers, critical care units like ICU or PICU, and emergency medicine scenarios.
- Provide tailored care for specific populations such as pediatrics, geriatrics—including memory care and dementia care—and individuals with developmental disabilities or behavioral health needs.
- Support discharge planning, case management activities, and long-term care strategies in nursing homes or assisted living facilities to ensure seamless patient transitions.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation adhering to NCQA standards while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Experience
- Proven experience working in diverse healthcare environments such as hospital medicine, emergency rooms, urgent care centers, or outpatient clinics.
- Critical care experience in ICU or trauma settings is highly desirable; familiarity with Level I/II trauma center protocols preferred.
- Hands-on experience with EMR/EHR systems like Cerner or Athenahealth; proficiency in ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9) is essential.
- Background in specialized fields such as cardiology (cardiac catheterization), nephrology (dialysis), ophthalmology (Botulinum toxin treatment), or hospice & palliative medicine is advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to perform advanced procedures including phlebotomy, venipuncture, sterile processing techniques, and aseptic technique adherence.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations including pediatric patients, seniors requiring geriatrics or memory care services, or individuals with disabilities is highly valued.
- Valid RN license with current BLS certification; additional certifications like ACLS or PALS are a plus.
