Position Overview
Capital District Psychiatric Center is seeking Registered Nurses (RNs) to provide direct nursing care to individuals in an inpatient setting. The Registered Nurse will conduct health assessments, develop and implement nursing care plans, administer medications and prescribed treatments, monitor individuals' conditions, and collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure safe and effective patient care.
The RN will also provide clinical supervision and instruction to Graduate Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and direct care staff, as appropriate, while advocating for individuals' healthcare needs and supporting continuity of care.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must possess a current New York State Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license and registration.
- Must be capable of providing direct nursing care in an inpatient setting.
- Must be able to perform nursing assessments and develop, implement, and modify nursing care plans.
- Must be able to administer medications and nursing procedures as prescribed by licensed healthcare providers.
- Must be able to effectively collaborate with interdisciplinary treatment teams and other healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently perform Registered Nurse duties and provide clinical supervision and instruction to Graduate Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and direct care staff.
- Delegate appropriate nursing activities, skills, and procedures to nursing and direct care staff.
- Conduct clinical rounds to assess individuals' nursing care needs and observe and evaluate the provision of nursing services.
- Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and obtain, record, and update health information and vital signs using standard instruments and procedures.
- Prepare, implement, and modify individualized nursing care plans.
- Prepare individuals for examinations and treatments and assist healthcare providers as required.
- Administer medications and prescribed nursing procedures.
- Observe, monitor, and document individuals' symptoms, conditions, diet, physical activity, and overall care.
- Identify and report individuals' responses to medications and changes in health status.
- Serve as the nursing representative on treatment teams and provide information regarding individuals' nursing needs.
- Consult and coordinate with treatment teams and other healthcare disciplines to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individual care.
- Act as a liaison with outside agencies and healthcare providers to promote continuity of care and appropriate follow-up.
- Advocate for individuals' healthcare needs and provide appropriate guidance regarding discharge plans.
- Provide health teaching, counseling, and education to individuals, families, and other groups.
- Develop and support health improvement programs.
- Implement infection control protocols and procedures and provide consultation and instruction to staff.
- Maintain and update charts, records, and other documentation in accordance with agency, State, and federal requirements.
- Monitor inventories and ensure medications, solutions, supplies, and equipment are maintained at appropriate standards.
- May perform supervisory responsibilities over Graduate Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and direct care staff.
- Provide information to Registered Nurse Supervisors and contribute to reports and performance evaluations for staff involved in nursing care activities.
