Job Description

Electron Microscopy Technologist

Responsible for preparing and analyzing tissue specimens using transmission and/or scanning electron microscopy to support diagnostic pathology services. This role performs specialized specimen preparation, operates electron microscopy equipment, captures diagnostic images, and collaborates with pathologists and laboratory staff to ensure timely and accurate patient results.

Responsibilities

Prepare tissue specimens for electron microscopy, including fixation, processing, embedding, ultrathin sectioning, staining, and mounting.
Operate and maintain transmission electron microscope (TEM) and/or scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipment.
Capture, process, and archive high-quality digital images for diagnostic review.
Perform routine quality control, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation.
Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with laboratory and regulatory standards.
Collaborate with pathologists, physicians, and laboratory personnel to support diagnostic testing and patient care.
Adhere to all safety, infection prevention, and quality assurance policies.
Assist with inventory management and ordering of laboratory supplies as needed.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor?s degree in chemical or biological field.
Minimum 2 years of recent Electron Microscopy experience in a clinical, pathology, academic, or research laboratory.
Demonstrated experience with specimen preparation, ultramicrotomy, and operation of TEM and/or SEM instrumentation.
Strong understanding of laboratory quality assurance and regulatory requirements.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

Preferred Qualifications

CEMT
Experience within a hospital-based pathology laboratory.
Experience with renal pathology, neuropathology, or diagnostic electron microscopy.
