Shift Matrix: Day Shift | 07:00 – 17:30 (4x10-Hour Shifts)

  • Schedule Quality: 10-hour days; scheduling will attempt to block working days together (not guaranteed).
  • On-Call Requirement: Yes — Weekday and weekend call coverage is required.

Guaranteed Hours: 40 Hours Per Week

 

🚫 Absolute Minimum Qualifications & Departmental Hardstops:

  • Licensure Mandate: Active, unencumbered New York State (NYS) RN License held in hand at submission.
  • Experience Baseline: Minimum 2+ years of dedicated Operating Room (OR) circulating RN experience in an acute care setting.
  • Core Certifications Required: Active AHA BLS and AHA ACLS certifications required. (CNOR certification preferred).
  • On-Call Commitment: Candidates must commit to mandatory weekday and weekend call rotation requirements.
  • Surgical Competency: Proven proficiency circulating across diverse surgical specialties including general, orthopedic, gynecological, urological, vascular, and ENT procedures.

Job Summary & Clinical Scope:

 

A hospital in Ithaca, NY is seeking an experienced, highly flexible Operating Room Circulating Registered Nurse (RN OR) for a 13-week day-shift contract within the Operating Room (Department 1139). The OR Circulator serves as the primary patient advocate inside the surgical suite, managing non-sterile intraoperative nursing care, coordinating surgical team communication, and ensuring strict adherence to aseptic protocols.

  • Intraoperative Patient Advocacy & Assessment: Perform pre-operative safety checks, verify surgical consent and site marking, lead "Time Out" huddles, and ensure proper patient positioning and pressure-point protection.
  • Surgical Suite Circulation & Safety: Maintain sterile field boundaries, manage surgical instrumentation and equipment, execute surgical counts (sponges, sharps, instruments) with scrub personnel, and ensure patient safety throughout operative procedures.
  • Specimen & Charting Accuracy: Coordinate intraoperative medication transfers to the field, manage pathology/lab specimen collection and labeling, and maintain real-time perioperative EHR documentation.
  • On-Call & Emergency Surgical Support: Respond promptly during assigned weekday and weekend call coverage to support emergency surgical interventions and trauma cases.
