Description

Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Department

Position Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) works collaboratively with physicians and other members of the healthcare team to provide safe, compassionate, and evidence-based patient care. The RN is responsible for assessing patient needs, initiating appropriate interventions, developing individualized plans of care, and providing patient and family education.

The ideal candidate demonstrates sound clinical judgment, adaptability, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and high-acuity environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Current Montana Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • American Heart Association (AHA) BLS
  • American Heart Association (AHA) ACLS
  • National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification
  • AHA PALS or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) Certification
  • Competence in and willingness to practice modified primary nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of Emergency Nursing or Critical Care experience

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Essential Job Functions

  • Collect comprehensive patient health and clinical data through systematic assessment.
  • Analyze assessment findings to identify patient diagnoses, concerns, and care priorities.
  • Establish individualized expected outcomes based on patient needs and clinical condition.
  • Develop and implement individualized plans of care using appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Evaluate patient responses and modify the plan of care as needed.
  • Promote patient health, safety, and a therapeutic care environment.
  • Maintain current knowledge and competency consistent with professional nursing practice.
  • Evaluate nursing practice against professional standards, guidelines, statutes, rules, and regulations.
  • Collaborate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Contribute to the professional development of peers and colleagues.
  • Incorporate ethical principles into all areas of nursing practice.
  • Integrate relevant research findings and evidence-based practices into patient care.
  • Provide leadership within the professional practice environment.
  • Complete all required education and training in accordance with DNV requirements, Bozeman Health policies, and applicable registry requirements.

Stroke & Trauma Competency

  • Follow hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines for patients experiencing hyperacute and acute stroke.
  • Complete 4 hours of stroke education annually.
  • Complete 6 hours of verifiable trauma-related education annually as required by the State Trauma Program.

  • Ability to remain effective in a busy, high-stress healthcare environment.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work varied shifts, including weekends and after-hours as required.
  • Demonstrates tact, discretion, sensitivity, and maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Self-directed with the ability to complete assignments accurately and independently.
  • Strong emotional intelligence, interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.

Schedule Requirements

  • Regular and sustained attendance is required.
  • The position may require work beyond a standard 40-hour workweek.
  • Weekend and after-hours shifts may be required.
  • On-call responsibilities may be required based on organizational, patient, or employee needs.

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting: Repeatedly lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects or people weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Sitting: Occasionally maintain a seated position for extended periods.
  • Standing: Repeatedly stand for extended periods.
  • Walking: Repeatedly walk and move throughout the assigned work area.
  • Climbing: Rarely climb or descend stairs, ladders, ramps, or similar structures.
  • Twisting/Bending/Stooping/Kneeling: Repeatedly perform movements requiring flexibility and range of motion.
  • Reaching: Repeatedly reach above shoulder level when lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling.
  • Push/Pull: Repeatedly exert force using the upper extremities.
  • Fine Finger Movements: Continuously perform tasks such as typing, handling, picking, and pinching.
  • Vision: Continuously perform close visual tasks involving computer screens, printed materials, and clinical documentation.
  • Cognitive Skills: Continuously learn new processes, maintain focus, remember procedures, work independently, and make timely decisions.
  • Workplace Exposures: May be continuously exposed to bloodborne pathogens, bodily fluids, radiation, medications, chemicals, disinfectants, infectious diseases, and emotionally challenging patient or family situations.
