Job Summary:
 

The Respiratory Therapist (RRT/RCP) performs respiratory care and pulmonary diagnostic procedures for patients with cardiopulmonary conditions. The therapist provides therapeutic treatments, diagnostic testing, ventilatory support, airway management, and other respiratory care services according to physician orders and established hospital and department policies.

The position provides care to patients of all ages in both critical-care and non-critical-care settings and supports the mission, vision, and values of Froedtert Health.
 

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform pulmonary diagnostic procedures and respiratory diagnostic testing.
• Provide therapeutic respiratory treatments using medical gases, respiratory equipment, humidification, and aerosol therapy.
• Administer medications to the cardiopulmonary system as ordered.
• Provide and manage ventilatory support, including life-support systems.
• Perform bronchopulmonary clearance techniques.
• Assist patients with breathing exercises.
• Maintain and manage natural and artificial airways.
• Perform airway maintenance and related respiratory procedures.
• Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as required.
• Educate patients regarding respiratory and cardiopulmonary care.
• Provide respiratory care in both critical-care and general/non-critical-care areas.
• Perform duties in accordance with Froedtert Health policies, procedures, mission, vision, and values.
• Complete other duties as assigned. 

Required Clinical Experience:

• Minimum 1 year of clinical experience, through employment or educational clinical experience, in:
  • General respiratory care
  • Critical care 

Preferred Experience:

• 2+ years of hospital-based respiratory care experience. 

Required Education:

• Associate degree from a CoARC-accredited Respiratory Care program. 

Preferred Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in respiratory care. 

Required Certifications & Licensure:

• Current State of Wisconsin License as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP)
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
• BLS Certification
• ACLS Certification
• NRP Certification — required for CHD only (Froedtert West Bend Hospital or Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital) 

Preferred Certifications / Professional Memberships:

• Membership with the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC)
• Membership with the Wisconsin Society for Respiratory Care (WSRC)
