Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

Facility: Akron Campus
Location: 141 N. Forge St., Akron, OH 44304
Setting: Adult Acute Care – Level 1 Trauma Center
Shift: Night Shift | 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) to provide respiratory care services in an all-adult, acute-care Level 1 Trauma Center. The therapist will assess patients, administer respiratory treatments, manage respiratory equipment, respond to emergencies, and collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Verify physician orders, assess patients, and determine the appropriateness of prescribed respiratory therapies.
• Monitor and document patient tolerance, response to treatment, and changes in respiratory status.
• Perform respiratory and pulmonary procedures according to department policies and established protocols.
• Administer medical gases and respiratory medications as ordered.
• Set up, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot respiratory care equipment.
• Respond to respiratory emergencies and participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation/Code situations.
• Provide patient and family education regarding respiratory treatments and address questions or concerns.
• Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record and complete billing information for services provided.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary patient-care teams to support positive patient outcomes.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, staff education, in-services, meetings, and professional development activities.
• Maintain proficiency in respiratory care techniques, equipment, and procedures in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Required Experience & Qualifications

• RRT preferred.
• CRT candidates may be considered if Registry Eligible and they have appropriate respiratory care experience.
• Previous adult acute-care hospital experience required.
• Level 1 Trauma Center or high-acuity acute-care experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical ventilation, non-invasive ventilation, and respiratory treatment procedures.
• Ability to respond effectively to emergency and critical-care situations.

• PB 840 Ventilator
• V60 Non-Invasive Ventilator
• EPOC Handheld Analyzer
• ParaPacPlus Transport Ventilator

• Interview Required
• RTO: Maximum of 7 days. Requests exceeding 7 days will result in automatic rejection.
