Specialty care is tailored towards diagnoses and procedures related to the abdomen or pelvic area. Nurses are given educational resources to support knowledge gaps for special precautions to consider with each procedure.

Patient Diagnoses:
This Surgical Oncology unit primarily cares for patients with a known cancer diagnosis recovering post-operatively from surgical interventions needed to manage their disease process or complications. Nursing care is provided accordingly to achieve specific post-op milestones for discharge. Patients do not typically receive Chemotherapy or Biotherapy while admitted on this unit, therefore, this type of certification is not needed to apply.
