Description
Licensure & Certifications
- BLS from AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross.
- RPSGT – Registered Polysomnographic Technologist, OR
- New York State Registered Polysomnographic Technician, OR
- New York State Respiratory Therapist (RT) license.
Sleep Tech / Respiratory Therapist Credentialing Requirements
RPSGT or equivalent credentials are strongly preferred. Respiratory Therapists may be considered depending on their sleep-medicine credentials and experience:
- RRT with RPSGT or equivalent: No additional training required; may perform technical and scoring duties independently.
- RRT without RPSGT but with RST/RRT-SDS: No A-STEP/program training required; may perform duties within the scope of their credentials.
- RRT without RPSGT and without another accepted sleep credential: Must complete an A-STEP or accredited polysomnography program within 2 years. May perform technical duties, but scoring must be supervised.
- Candidates performing scoring without RPSGT or an accepted sleep-specialist certification: Scoring must be supervised by a credentialed sleep specialist/technologist.
