Requirements

ICU and/or PCU/Stepdown experience required
Ventilator experience required
Must be comfortable with telemetry monitoring
Must be able to interpret telemetry and communicate changes to the physician
Experience with titratable drips required

Post-shock and post-stroke patients
Pneumonia
CHF
Post-cardiac arrest
Non-DKA
Respiratory failure
Ventilator weaning
Tracheostomy patients
Infectious disease cases
Patients requiring critical-care-level monitoring

Drips

RNs may titrate:

Nicardipine
Levophed/pressors
Fentanyl
Precedex
Heparin
Insulin
Other titratable drips

Schedule & Weekend Requirements

12-hour shifts: 7:00 AM–7:30 PM
3 shifts per week
Every other weekend minimum
May be required to participate in holiday rotation
Travelers are expected to remain flexible based on unit staffing needs

Travelers may float to:

ICU
CCU
PCU/Telemetry
Pulmonary
Med-Surg/Telemetry

Typical ratios when floating: 1:4–5

Additional Information

PCT support available, typically 1 PCT for 5 patients
RT manages CPAP, BiPAP, ventilators, trachs, and high-flow oxygen
Centralized telemetry monitoring 24/7
Scrub Color: Royal Blue
Unit orientation: 2 days with a preceptor
