Position Overview

Aspirus Wausau is seeking an experienced Social Worker to provide social services and counseling to a diverse inpatient population in an acute-care hospital setting.

The Social Worker will work across Med/Surg and Critical Care clusters, supporting all inpatient units and working alongside the RN team on discharge planning.

Schedule

• 40 hours/week
• 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
• Occasional weekends may be required
• May be low-censused and placed on call based on patient volume
• Call-back minimum: 2 hours
• Holiday coverage as needed
• Guaranteed hours do not apply during holidays when the unit is closed
• GSA hours are not guaranteed during the orientation week

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of experience in social services and counseling
• Experience must be in a hospital acute-care setting
• Experience working with a diverse patient population
• Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW)
• Wisconsin Social Work license
• WI license and required credentials must be attached at submission
• MSW is preferred/required per the education requirement

Unit & Patient Information

Units: Med/Surg and Critical Care Clusters
Coverage: All inpatient units
Patient Ratio: Approximately 8–20 patients per day, depending on patient acuity

The position follows a layered model, with the Social Worker working in tandem with the RN team to support discharge planning and patient needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide social services and counseling to hospitalized patients
• Support patients and families with psychosocial needs
• Collaborate with RNs and the interdisciplinary care team
• Assist with discharge planning and coordination
• Assess patient and family needs
• Connect patients with appropriate community and healthcare resources
• Document assessments, interventions, and plans in Epic
• Support patients across Med/Surg and Critical Care units

Important

This position requires flexibility with patient volume and scheduling. The traveler may be placed on call if census is low, and occasional weekend and holiday coverage may be required.
