Location: 1215 Lee St, Charlottesville, VA 22908
Department: Respiratory Therapy
Contract: 26 weeks
Shift: Nights | 4×12 hours | 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
Hours: 36 or 48 hours/week
Weekend: Every other weekend required
Holidays: Every other holiday; must work 2 of the 3 winter holidays. 

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) to join UVA Health’s Respiratory Therapy Department. UVA Health is a Level I Trauma Center affiliated with a major medical school, offering a multidisciplinary environment where therapists are expected to demonstrate strong communication, critical thinking, clinical judgment, and proactive patient care.

The department supports Surgical/Neuro, Heart & Vascular, Medical, and Unit Rotation services. Therapists may occasionally float between sections based on department needs.

Key Responsibilities & Clinical Skills

The RRT will provide respiratory care across adult and geriatric populations, including:

• Adult critical care and Emergency Department
• Mechanical ventilation, including BiPAP, CPAP, SIMV, IMV, and ventilator weaning
• Troubleshooting ventilator alarms
• HFNC, oxygen therapy, ET tubes, trach collars, T-pieces, and bag-mask ventilation
• Airway management, suctioning, extubation, and intubation assistance
• Tracheostomy care and management
• ABG collection and interpretation
• Nebulizer and aerosol medication delivery
• Care for patients with ARDS, aspiration, pneumonia, fresh tracheostomies, and post-bronchoscopy needs
• Chest physiotherapy and pulmonary hygiene
• Administration of respiratory medications including Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Flovent, Pulmicort, and others

Requirements

• RRT certification – Required
• BLS – Required
• Virginia State License – Required/pending accepted
• 4+ years of experience preferred/required; candidates with 2+ years may be considered
• Epic experience – Required
• Teaching hospital experience – Required
• Level II Trauma experience – Required
• Level I Trauma experience – Preferred
• ACCS – Preferred
• Strong critical-care, communication, and clinical decision-making skills
