Surgical Technologist – Operating Room (OR Tech)

Contract Duration: 13 Weeks 

Shift Matrix: Day Shift | 07:00 – 15:30 (5x8-Hour Shifts)

  • Schedule Quality: Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week.
  • On-Call Requirement: Yes — On-call required every 2–3 weekdays (15:30 – 07:30 next day) AND 48-hour call every 2–3 weekends (07:30 Saturday – 07:30 Monday).
  • Response Time Guardrail: 30-Minute Response Time Mandate. Candidate must be able to arrive physically at the hospital within 30 minutes of being called in.
  • Float Policy: Must be willing and able to float to appropriate perioperative units as operationally needed.

    Guaranteed Hours: 40 Hours Per Week

🚫 Absolute Minimum Qualifications & Departmental Hardstops:

  • Surgical Technology Certification/Licensure: National Certification (CST via NBSTSA or NCCT) and/or state registration as required by Rhode Island practice standards.
  • Mandatory Technical Proficiency (STRICT):
    • da Vinci Robotic Surgery Experience REQUIRED. Candidate must be experienced in setting up, draping, and assisting on da Vinci surgical robotic platforms.
    • C-Section Experience REQUIRED. Must have verified scrubbing experience in emergency and elective Cesarean sections.
  • Core Certification Required: Active AHA BLS certification.
  • On-Call & Call-In Compliance: Must commit to rigorous weekday and 48-hour weekend call rotations, adhering strictly to the 30-minute call-in arrival window.

Job Summary & Clinical Scope

A hospital in Woonsocket, RI is seeking an experienced, robotic-proficient Surgical Technologist (Surgical Tech - OR) for a 13-week day-shift contract within the Surgery Department (74200). Operating in a fast-paced community hospital perioperative setting, the Surgical Tech will prepare operating suites, establish sterile fields, scrub for diverse surgical cases, and support robotic and OB/GYN surgical interventions.

  • Sterile Field Setup & Scrub Duties: Assemble, organize, and count specialized surgical instruments, sponges, and needles; maintain absolute sterile field technique throughout general, orthopedic, gynecological, vascular, and urological surgical procedures.
  • Robotic Surgical Assistance: Prepare and drape the da Vinci robotic surgical system, assist surgeons with instrument dock/undock maneuvers, troca exchanges, and robotic tissue manipulation during robotic-assisted interventions.
  • Obstetrical Surgical Support: Rapidly scrub and support surgical teams during scheduled and emergency C-section procedures in the OR or Labor & Delivery suites.
  • Intraoperative Team Collaboration: Hand instruments, retractors, and sponges directly to surgeons and physician assistants; assist with post-operative surgical wound dressings, specimen handling, and suite decontamination breakdown.
