FCI McKean | Lewis Run, PA  |  Part-Time |  Up to 30 hours/week (Monday–Thursday)

Position Overview

We are seeking a certified Phlebotomist to provide on-site laboratory support services at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) McKean Health Services Department in Lewis Run, Pennsylvania. This is a non-personal services contract position supporting patient flow, specimen collection, and laboratory coordination under the direction of the institution's Clinical Director and Health Services Administrator. Sessions are scheduled primarily between 6:00 AM–2:00 PM EST, Monday through Thursday, with flexibility to 4:00 PM EST, for a total of up to 30 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Physician, Physician Assistant, and/or Nurse with patient flow by measuring vital signs and weight, and scanning laboratory results into the Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR).
• Organize, schedule, and perform laboratory studies and specimen collection within the Health Service Unit, including A&O in-processing, DNA collection per procedure, vaccine programs, and PPD updates.
• Prepare and ensure specimens are packed and transported to the contract or BOP reference laboratory in accordance with Health Services Unit Laboratory Procedures; track results, notify providers, and file results in the lab and medical record.
• Maintain current knowledge of the Health Services Manual and Unit Procedures, including the Laboratory Procedure Manual.
• Assist the Health Services Administrator (HSA) with coordination of BOP and contract reference lab activity, CLIA re-certification, equipment maintenance, and supply needs.
• Support the HSA and Clinical Director in developing and implementing laboratory program policies.

Qualifications & Experience

• Current, valid certification to practice as a Phlebotomist in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
• CPR certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Demonstrated experience with specimen collection, packaging, and shipment to referral laboratories, including proper record maintenance.
• Experience in a clinical correctional setting is desirable but not required.
• Ability to pass a federal background investigation and institution health screening requirements (including TB/communicable disease testing) prior to and during assignment.
• Resume, diplomas, and certifications required to support stated qualifications.

Compensation

Local hourly rate: $23.60/hour

This is a local, on-site position; no per diem or lodging allowance applies.
