Description

- # Beds/Trauma Bays : 17 can flex to 22 with hallway beds if there is enough staff 

- Do you have a Fast Track: We fast track patients through triage lobby 

- Do you have a separate Triage area? If so, do you allow/require travelers to do Triage?: Yes., there is a triage area. 

We do allow travelers to triage if they have that experience. 

- Do you have a separate holding area in the ER or are ER holds intermixed w/in the ER?: No, they are intermixed. Ed nurse will be primary nurse. 

- Do you have separate Psych/seclusion rooms?: There are 4 designated rooms for psych patients. 

- Is Security in-house 24/7? Housed in the ER? : yes 24/7 in house and 24/7 in ED 

- On average, how many patients do you treat in the ER/day?: 66 

- Nurse: Patient Ratios: 1:4 

- Required Certifications: BLS ACLS NIHSS PALS 

- Common diagnoses/Types of patients: stroke, stemi, sepsis, chest pain, psychosis, behavioral health- heavy population. Rare peds (1%)- treat and transfer. 

- Experience or 'Must have' skills: Behavioral health, Prefer an existing traveler that has completed 1-2 assignments. One year of experience. 

- Common drips?: Insulin, cardiac drips, sedation, critical drips. 

- ED Physician/Mid-Levels: Both 

- Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment?: Charge nurse typically doesn't have an assignment. Travelers may be used as charge- more so at night. If willing, let the manager know. 

- Nurse aids/EMT/Paramedics/Patient Sitters? Ratios? Duties?: Ed techs- EKGs, blood sugar, settle and place on monitor, 1:1 sitter, secretary role, ADLs. Some are trained to do phlebotomy and splinting. 

- Is RT in the ER 24/7? Do they do ABG's, breathing Tx, & EKG's?: RT gets paged if needed- some RNs do abgs. RN does breathing treatment. 

- RT Equipment (Vents, Cpap, BiPap, High Flow, etc.) Are RNs required to do anything with these besides trouble shoot?: RT manages RT equipment - intubation, cpap, bipap, ABGs, vent management. 

- Do you have Monitor Techs in the ER? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the Tele monitors?: Phillips monitors. Techs and RNs are responsible to monitor tele 

- X-Ray or CT in the ER? Transport?: Both in the ER department. They do all transport. 

- Does Phlebotomy draw labs or RN's draw?: RNs draw labs. 

Phlebotomy can assist if too busy or a difficult stick 

- Shifts & Scheduling: 12 hours- start times 7a,9a,11a,1p,3p,7p

- Do not typically rotate start times. 

Would know ahead of time if that was the ask. 

Would do one shift for the week and then switch the next week if working variable shifts. 

 

Region I: Primary to Virginia Mason Medical Center, but if needed, travelers will be required to float throughout Region One: St. Anne Hospital – Burien, WA; St. Francis Hospital – Federal Way, WA; Virginia Mason Medical Center – Seattle, WA. Additional $20hours when floated within Region I that's not the primary facility. - Trauma Level: No Trauma level STEMI Receiving: yes we receive STEMI Stroke Center: we are a comprehensive Stroke Center Scheduler does the schedule. Try to work around schedules. Block schedule is not guaranteed. - Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend. - Holiday Requirements: Expected to work some holidays. - Is there call or a standby requirement?: No - Floating Requirements: No - Scrub Color/Dress Code: Royal Blue - Unit/Department specific orientation: Orientation for one 12 hour shift with an experienced ED RN
