Description
Pediatric MedSurg/Stepdown RN — Night Shift
- Unit: Pediatrics – MedSurg/Stepdown
- Beds: 12 beds (4 semi-private rooms)
- Shift: 7:00 PM–7:30 AM, 12-hour nights
- Guaranteed hours: 36/week
- Contract: 91 days / 13 weeks
- Charting: EPIC
- BSN: Not required
- License to submit: Required; willing to wait
- Scrubs: Royal Blue
- Orientation: Typically 2–3 days
Patient population
Primarily pediatric patients, including:
- Bili babies
- RSV/other respiratory issues
- Cellulitis
- IV antibiotic patients
- Pediatric MedSurg/stepdown patients
- Occasionally adult patients, including post-op hysterectomy patients
- May float to Postpartum
Ratios
- Typical pediatric ratio: 1:4
- Adult/post-op patients may be 1:6
- Even with only one patient, staffing may include 1 RN + 1 PCT
Required / preferred certifications
- BLS – AHA: Required
- PALS – AHA: Required
- NRP: Preferred
Skills / responsibilities
- PALS experience is a must-have.
- Drip titration is uncommon.
- Possible drips: IV fluids and insulin.
- Nurses monitor respiratory equipment but do not manage vents.
- No telemetry/monitor tech.
- May assist the ED with IV placement.
- May perform outpatient lab collections and straight catheterizations.
