Description
Unit: PCU - Nursing Float Pool
Experience Required: 1 year minimum; will accept first time traveler with strong PCU/Tele and previous float pool experience.
Certs Required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
Skills Required: IV Medication Titration, Cardiac rhythm interpretation, bipap management, ostomy, general drains, traches, chest tubes, lumbar drains; TR Bands experience (preferred)
EPIC experience
Floating: PCU, Tele, MedSurg, ER Holding. Anywhere in this hospital or in Allenmore that have these patients.
Traveler could float to Allenmore Hospital as needed, around 2.5 miles away. This is not common but is possible. Travelers should be notified in advance if they are needed at Allenmore.
Patient Types:
Most common unit you will be on is ED Holding. This is not considered your home unit, but it is a unit where you should expect to spend most of your contract. You will float to inpatient PCU area but will likely spend most of your shifts working in the ED Holding area
Neuro, Trauma, Surgical, Medical, etc. Respiratory compromise, sepsis, renal failure, bleeding disorders, general medical and surgical, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, ortho, strokes
CCU (Cardiac Stepdown), Cardiac Short Stay (Cardiac Obs) – 24h post CABG/TAVRs (experience required), STEMIs, fem-pops, pacemakers, ablations, chest pain obs, post-cath, TR bands
Patient Ratios:
PCU: 1:4
MedSurg: 1:5-6
Support within the Department:
CNA
Charge RN without patient assignment
Hospitalist 24/7
RT 24/7
Cardiac and specialty MDs on call 24/7
Technology/Equipment:
EMR: EPIC - required
IV Pump: Alaris
Med dispensing: Pyxis
Orientation (facility and unit):
1-day general hospital orientation
1 day of unit orientation (12 hours) on PCU unit
1 day of light unit orientation
Traveler Telemetry Competency Required
Scheduling:
Weekend rotation: every other, but could work some back-to-back weekends (rare)
On call? No
Holiday Expectations:
RTO: Ok to approve up to 5 days
Shift times: 0700-1930 or 1900-0730
Schedule cycle: scheduled is made in 3-week increments, traveler will receive 7-10 days prior to schedule beginning
No self-scheduling, no guarantee of patterned schedule
Other notes:
Scrub Color: Any solid color, professional
Parking: Free, parking garage
Must fill out whiteboards, do and document hourly rounding, give bedside report
Saline Flushes considered medication. Do not leave at the bedside or in your scrub pocket
Do not leave medications in unlocked cart.
When wasting medications, two-nurse verification is required. (Narcotics, Benzodiazepine, etc.)
Documenting pain before and after giving pain medication (30 minutes for IV, 1 hour for oral
