Description

PCU/Stepdown RN – Neuro Unit

Unit: 8SE Neuro PCU/Stepdown
Contract: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour nights
Local Candidates: Not accepted
Interview Process: Interview-to-offer (ITO)

Unit Details

40-bed intermediate-care unit
Typical ratio: 1:5 on nights and 1:4 on days
Adult and geriatric patient population
Neuro and stroke patients
Cardiac drips and progressive-care monitoring
Unit contains pediatric-capable beds, but travelers will not receive pediatric assignments
Ratios may change according to staffing and patient acuity

Requirements

Active RN license for the state of practice or qualifying compact license
Minimum 1 year of RN experience
BLS
ACLS
NIHSS
Dysrhythmia exam required; study guide available
Neuro/stroke experience preferred
Acute-care and Epic experience preferred

Clinical Skills

PCU/stepdown nursing
Dysrhythmia recognition
Cardiac-drip management
Comprehensive assessment and care planning
Rapid response to changing patient conditions
Multisystem and complex patient management
Chest-tube care
Hemodynamic monitoring
Advanced respiratory support
Care coordination and patient/family education
Safe medication administration and clinical documentation

Preferred: BSN, PCCN or CCRN certification, critical-care coursework, and Epic experience.
