Physical Therapy Assistant

Position Overview

The Physical Therapy Assistant provides physical therapy treatments under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist. The role involves assisting patients with therapeutic exercises, functional activities, mobility, transfers, gait, and balance training while applying appropriate modalities and manual techniques.

The position works with minimal supervision and may also assist with mentoring and training staff on technical skills. This position is represented by UFCW.

Responsibilities

• Provide physical therapy treatments under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist.
• Utilize appropriate therapeutic modalities, manual techniques, and exercise techniques.
• Instruct and guide patients through functional activities, including:
  • Bed mobility
  • Transfers
  • Gait training
  • Balance activities
• Assist patients in improving mobility, strength, coordination, and functional independence.
• Work with minimal supervision while following established clinical guidelines and procedures.
• Mentor and train staff on applicable technical skills as needed.
• Maintain a safe and supportive environment for patients during therapy sessions.

Education & Experience

• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent: Required
• Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience: Required
• Two years of physical therapy or related technical experience: Preferred

Required Licenses & Certifications

• Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) License in the state of practice: Required
• CPR or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor per AH policy: Required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor per AH facility requirements: Required
