Job Requirements & Responsibilities

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Cytotechnology or equivalent required/preferred based on certification requirements.
Master’s Degree preferred.
5+ years of experience preferred.
Cytology experience preferred.
ASCP Histology Technician certification preferred.
License preferred but not mandatory.
Required experience with:
- Microtomy
- Embedding
- Special Stains
- Immunohistochemistry (IHC)

Schedule

Night Shift: 5 × 8-hour shifts.
Schedule: Sunday night through Thursday night.
Shift Time: 11:00 PM – 7:30 AM.
Open to candidates who prefer a 12:00 AM or 1:00 AM start time.
No Call.

Key Responsibilities Prepare tissue sections for microscopic examination using embedding, cutting, and staining techniques. Perform embedding, microtomy, special stains, IHC, coverslipping, and labeling. Stain and coverslip tissue and Pap smear slides. Process gynecological, non-gynecological, and bone marrow specimens using specified reagents. Prepare slides for Pathologist examination and diagnosis. Examine prepared slides under a microscope to ensure they meet established quality standards. Prepare and maintain solutions required for laboratory procedures. Identify, label, and process tissue specimens according to established specifications. Operate and maintain precision laboratory equipment. Clean equipment, change solutions, monitor temperatures, and replenish supplies as needed. Evaluate the validity of test results, including controls for special stains and IHC. Maintain accurate records, logs, and documentation. Perform and document quality control checks. Ensure preventive maintenance is completed on laboratory instruments. Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and reagents. Keep laboratory instruments and work areas clean and organized. Report and file findings as directed. Deliver prepared slides to Pathologists for examination and diagnosis. Monitor and facilitate efficient departmental workflow and operations.
