Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) to join a busy surgical services department supporting a diverse range of procedures. The department includes 4 operating rooms and 1 procedure room, with approximately 15–22 surgical cases per day.

The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of OR nursing experience and be comfortable working in a fast-paced surgical environment with a broad range of specialties, including general surgery, orthopedics, plastics, GI, urology, pediatric dental, and surgical oncology.

Surgical Specialties

The OR supports procedures across multiple specialties, including:

• General Surgery
• Orthopedic fractures and scopes
• Plastic Surgery
• Gastrointestinal (GI)
• Urology
• Pediatric Dental
• Surgical Oncology

Orthopedic hip/knee volume experience is not specifically required.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide safe and comprehensive perioperative nursing care.
• Support surgical procedures across multiple specialties.
• Maintain a safe and sterile operating environment.
• Prepare patients for surgical procedures and provide appropriate perioperative care.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technicians, and other members of the OR team.
• Monitor patients and respond appropriately to changes in condition.
• Maintain accurate documentation using Epic.
• Utilize Omnicell medication management systems.
• Follow all hospital, surgical-services, infection-control, and patient-safety protocols.

Scrubbing and circulating: Specific scrub/circulate experience is not required as an additional requirement for this position.

Required Experience & Certifications

• Minimum 2 years of OR RN experience – Required
• BLS – Required
• ACLS – Required
• PALS – Required for nurses performing pediatric cases

Schedule & Call

Regular Schedule:

• Monday–Friday
• 6:45 AM – 3:15 PM

Call Requirement:

• Call is required.
• Approximately 2 weekdays of call per week
• 1 weekend of call per month

Floating

No floating required.

The traveler will remain within the Operating Room/Surgical Services department.

Local candidates are accepted at a $64 local rate.

Compliance Requirements

Flu Vaccine

Flu vaccination is required at UMMC.

Only a medical exemption is permitted, and documented evidence from a healthcare provider demonstrating a previous severe reaction to the vaccine is required.

Fingerprinting

Fingerprinting is required before the assignment begins.

• Remote fingerprinting: Allow approximately 10 days for processing.
• In-person fingerprinting: Available at the Jackson or Grenada campus during the week prior to the start date.
