Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced ER / MedSurg / Swing Bed Registered Nurse (RN) for a Critical Access facility. This is a versatile role requiring the RN to provide care across the Emergency Department, MedSurg, and Swing Bed areas.

MUST HAVE

• Minimum 1 year of ER experience
• Previous Charge Nurse experience
• Ability to float between ER, MedSurg, and Swing Bed
• Strong communication, teamwork, flexibility, and adaptability
• Ability to work effectively under pressure

Critical Access experience is strongly preferred.

Required Certifications

• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS
• PALS
• TNCC

Department Details

Emergency Department

• 2 ER beds/trauma bays
• Critical Access setting
• RN-to-patient ratio: 1:3–4
• Common patient types:
  • Trauma
  • Stroke
  • STEMI
  • Chest pain
  • Respiratory diagnoses
  • Lacerations
• Common drips include Heparin and Levophed
• No nurse aides, EMTs, paramedics, or patient sitters in the ER.
• RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own telemetry strips.

MedSurg / Swing Bed

• 10 MedSurg beds
• RN-to-patient ratio:
  • Days: 1:5
  • Nights: 1:6
• Patient population ranges from pediatric to geriatric
• Common diagnoses:
  • Pneumonia
  • UTIs
  • Observation patients
  • Short-term Swing Bed patients
• Nurse aides available at approximately 1:8
• Charge nurse is present on each shift and takes an assignment.

Schedule

• Day: 0630–1900
• Night: 1830–0700
• Self/team scheduling available
• Every other weekend
• Every third holiday
• Floating required between ER, MedSurg, and Swing Bed

Orientation

• One 12-hour unit/department-specific orientation shift

Ideal Candidate

• Experienced in Emergency Nursing
• Comfortable functioning as a charge nurse
• Adaptable to multiple departments and patient populations
• Comfortable working in a Critical Access environment
• A strong communicator and team player
• Able to remain calm and effective under pressure

Important Submission Requirements

Radius Rule

• 50-mile radius rule applies.
• Candidates cannot currently work full-time, part-time, or PRN at any facility affiliated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity.

Requested Time Off (RTO)

• RTO must be provided at the time of submission.
• Maximum of 7 days of RTO per 13-week contract.
• Additional RTO will not be approved after submission.
