Position Summary

Wichita Falls State Hospital is seeking Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) to provide nursing care and support to individuals with intellectual disabilities, complex medical conditions, mental health conditions, and behavioral health needs.

The LVN will provide nursing services under the guidance of the Facility Medical Director and in accordance with Texas Board of Nursing requirements, facility policies, HHSC standards, and applicable accreditation guidelines.
 

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to individuals residing at Wichita Falls State Hospital.
• Administer medications, immunizations, and prescribed treatments.
• Monitor patients for unusual symptoms, adverse reactions, and changes in condition.
• Monitor vital signs, weight, diet, and feeding requirements.
• Recognize signs and symptoms of illness and use appropriate nursing judgment.
• Initiate acute care plans when clinically appropriate.
• Provide nursing care in accordance with the Nursing Process established by the Texas Board of Nursing.
• Accurately complete electronic data entry, medical records, reports, and other required documentation.
• Maintain timely and accurate patient records in accordance with HHSC and facility policies.
• Follow facility Standard Operating Procedures and applicable HHSC, Joint Commission, and WFSH standards.
• Provide care to individuals with mental health, behavioral health, intellectual disability, and complex medical needs.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to support patient safety and continuity of care.
• Perform other nursing duties as assigned by the facility.

Required Qualifications

• Current LVN/LPN license in good standing.
• License must be issued by the Texas Board of Nursing or a state participating in the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must not be excluded from providing services under Medicare or Medicaid.
• Must successfully complete:
  • Drug screening
  • Criminal background check
  • Fingerprint check
  • Applicable registry clearances
• Must comply with HHSC immunization requirements.
• Must complete all required facility and HHSC training, including facility CPR.
• Must meet all additional facility requirements.

• Behavioral Health / Psychiatric nursing
• Mental Health nursing
• Intellectual or developmental disabilities
• Long-term care or institutional nursing
• Complex medical care
• Medication administration
• Acute care assessment
• Hospital or state facility experience

Available Shifts

Depending on the assigned unit:

• 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM
• 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM
• 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM
• 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM
• 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM
• 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM

Days: Sunday–Saturday

Shifts may alternate based on facility staffing requirements.

Important: Candidates must be available to begin on the first of the month. New Employee Orientation/New Nurse Orientation (NEO/NNO) is required Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM during the first month.
