Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical-Surgical

Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care to individuals recovering from illness, injury, surgery, and acute medical conditions.

The RN will utilize sound clinical judgment, critical-thinking skills, and the nursing process to assess patient needs, develop and implement individualized care plans, evaluate outcomes, and coordinate treatment with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams. The position also serves as a professional resource and role model for peers and other members of the care team.

Essential Responsibilities

• Provide safe, evidence-based, and patient-centered nursing care in accordance with established standards and scope of practice
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans
• Monitor vital signs, symptoms, clinical status, and overall patient progress
• Recognize and promptly report changes in patient condition
• Administer medications, treatments, and IV therapies as ordered
• Assist with postoperative recovery, acute-care interventions, and chronic disease management
• Respond appropriately to emergencies and coordinate timely interventions with the interdisciplinary team
• Collaborate with physicians, specialists, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to promote optimal patient outcomes
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)
• Ensure compliance with infection prevention, patient safety, regulatory, and facility standards
• Evaluate patient responses to treatment and modify nursing interventions as appropriate
• Maintain continuity of care by effectively communicating patient needs, interventions, changes in condition, and ongoing requirements during handoffs
• Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, discharge instructions, and self-care
• Promote patient independence by establishing achievable care goals and providing appropriate education and support
• Provide compassionate emotional, psychological, and supportive care to patients and their families
• Communicate effectively with patients and families across diverse age groups, cultural backgrounds, educational levels, and socioeconomic circumstances
• Prioritize multiple patient care responsibilities with accuracy, efficiency, and sound clinical judgment

Leadership & Team Responsibilities

• Delegate appropriate tasks to Nursing Assistants, ESTs, and Unit Clerks according to scope of practice and patient needs
• Provide appropriate oversight of delegated responsibilities
• Serve as a professional resource, mentor, teacher, and role model for peers and other healthcare providers
• Support effective teamwork and maintain a collaborative environment across the nursing unit
• Participate in nursing staff meetings and professional development activities
• Attend at least 75% of nursing staff meetings and applicable in-service education programs related to professional growth and development

Clinical & Professional Standards

• Maintain current knowledge of evidence-based nursing practices
• Practice in accordance with applicable State Board of Nursing regulations, facility policies, and governing standards
• Exercise independent nursing judgment within the scope of licensure
• Maintain professional accountability for patient care and clinical decisions
• Demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize care in a timely and accurate manner
• Promote a safe, respectful, and compassionate patient-care environment

Ideal Candidate

The ideal Medical-Surgical RN will demonstrate strong clinical assessment skills, critical thinking, communication, organization, and teamwork. The candidate should be comfortable caring for patients with varying medical and postoperative needs while effectively prioritizing care, coordinating treatment, educating patients and families, and supporting the broader healthcare team.
