Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) to join a dynamic and fast-paced emergency care environment at Tsehootsooi Medical Center. The ideal candidate will have strong emergency nursing experience and be comfortable caring for patients across multiple areas of the Emergency Department.

ED nurses are expected to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability, as assignments may vary based on patient volume, staffing, and operational needs.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience in the specialty being applied for
• Additional experience may be required depending on the specific position
• Strong Emergency Department experience required for this assignment
• Candidates must demonstrate the clinical competence necessary to work independently in assigned areas

Emergency Department Structure

The Emergency Department includes:

• 11-bed Main Emergency Department
• 6-bed ED Fast Track
• 7-bed ED Observation Unit

ED nurses are expected to rotate regularly through all three areas based on departmental needs.

Additional assignments may include:

• Emergency Department Triage
• Quick Registration
• COVID Tent
• Entry Screening
• COVID testing
• Immunization clinics, as needed

Nurses may be assigned to a different area each day and may be rotated between areas during the same shift depending on patient volume and unit requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive emergency nursing care to patients with a wide range of medical conditions
• Perform patient assessments, triage, prioritization, and ongoing reassessment
• Provide care in the Main ED, Fast Track, and Observation areas
• Adapt quickly to changing patient volumes and departmental assignments
• Respond appropriately to emergent and rapidly changing patient conditions
• Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare teams
• Assist with COVID testing and immunization clinics when required
• Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation
• Support overall departmental operations and patient flow
• Provide safe, compassionate, and patient-centered care in accordance with facility standards

Schedule

• 12-hour shifts
• Typical schedule is 7 days on / 7 days off
• Approximately 36 hours one week and 48 hours the following week
• Shift assignments may include:
  • Days
  • Mid shifts
  • Nights
• Shift schedules may change during the assignment based on facility staffing needs
• Travelers should be prepared to remain flexible with scheduling
• Maximum RTO: 1 week, if needed

Floating Requirements

Travelers may occasionally be required to float to other departments where they are qualified and clinically competent.

Depending on experience and competency, floating may involve:

• Taking a patient assignment
• Providing task-oriented support
• Answering call lights
• Answering phones
• Other appropriate departmental support activities

Required Certifications

All certifications must be current and from the required/approved providers:

• BLS – American Heart Association (AHA) – Required
• ACLS – AHA – Required
• PALS or ENPC – Required
• TNCC – Required

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an experienced ED RN who is flexible, clinically confident, and comfortable working across multiple emergency care settings. Strong triage skills, adaptability, teamwork, and the ability to function effectively in a high-volume environment are essential for success in this assignment.
