Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN) for a long-term contract opportunity within a specialized Geriatric Psychiatry/Behavioral Health unit.

The unit primarily serves patients aged 60+ with conditions including dementia, depression, suicidal ideation, and other behavioral health needs. The unit features 16 private rooms and maintains a strong focus on patient safety, therapeutic care, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
 

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to geriatric psychiatric patients.
• Assess, monitor, and document patients' physical and behavioral health conditions.
• Administer medications and manage IV therapy as required.
• Perform blood draws/phlebotomy and manage IVs.
• Monitor patients for changes in behavior, mood, safety risks, and clinical condition.
• Support patients experiencing dementia, depression, suicidal ideation, and other psychiatric conditions.
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.
• Collaborate with physicians, behavioral health professionals, technicians, and other members of the care team.
• Float to other units, including Med/Surg, as a helping hand when required and within scope of practice.
• Follow facility policies, safety procedures, and crisis-prevention protocols.

Required Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience; psychiatric/behavioral health experience preferred.
• Experience caring for geriatric psychiatric patients is strongly preferred.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program through ACEN or CCNE.
• BLS certification required.
• CPI certification / non-crisis intervention certification required.
• Recent Epic experience within the past 12 months; Epic experience must be clearly listed on the resume, including where it was most recently used.
• Strong phlebotomy/blood-drawing skills required.
• Ability to manage IVs.
• Willingness to float within scope of practice.
• Strong assessment, communication, documentation, and patient-safety skills.

Unit & Patient Population

• Geriatric Psychiatry / Behavioral Health
• Primarily patients 60+ years of age
• Common patient populations include:
  • Dementia
  • Depression
  • Suicidal ideation
  • Behavioral health conditions
• 16 private patient rooms
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio: approximately 1:6–7
• Staffing may include RNs and behavioral health technicians based on census and acuity.
• Patient safety is supported through security measures and staff-accessible safety systems.

Assignment Requirements

• Interview required – candidates must provide available interview dates/times at submission.
• RTO must be submitted with the candidate's application.
• Maximum 7 days of RTO accepted.
• No RTO will be accepted during the first two weeks of the assignment.
• Block scheduling requests are not accepted.
• Candidate must be comfortable floating within their scope of practice.
