Details of Assignment:

Chronic care mental health/counseling role in a correctional setting with several built-in safety and support measures: Primary Responsibilities Conduct 8–15 chronic care visits per day. Provide counseling, emotional support, and grief coping assistance. Monitor mental health status and ongoing treatment needs. Complete documentation and charting for each encounter. Work closely with the mental health team and correctional staff. Safety Considerations Positive safety features include: Visits are generally conducted in a designated room with the inmate. Correctional staff are nearby and supervising the unit. A panic button is available if immediate assistance is needed. Guards are present throughout the facility. When movement through housing units is required, it is typically done with a correctional officer escort. Door-to-door visits appear to be less common than office-based encounters. Training and Support It sounds like there is a structured onboarding process: On-site training before working independently. Opportunities to shadow experienced staff. Training on charting, documentation, and facility procedures. A designated Mental Health Coordinator in each building for guidance, supervision, and reporting concerns.
