Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) to join a supportive, traveler-friendly Med/Surg team. This position offers the opportunity to care for a diverse patient population across multiple Medical-Surgical units, including ventilator care, orthopedic, and general Medical-Surgical patients.

The ideal candidate should have strong clinical judgment, excellent time-management skills, and the ability to safely manage a 1:9 nurse-to-patient ratio while working collaboratively with PCA/technician support staff.

• Department: Medical-Surgical
• Total Med/Surg Units: 3
• MS/Vent Unit: 31 beds
• MS Orthopedic Unit: 31 beds
• General Med/Surg Unit: 38 beds
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:9
• Support Staff: PCA/Technicians available on the units
• Patient Population: Ventilator, orthopedic, and general medical-surgical patients
• EMR: EPIC
• Assignment Type: Traveler-friendly

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients with medical, surgical, orthopedic, and ventilator-related needs
• Perform thorough patient assessments and develop individualized care plans
• Monitor vital signs, clinical status, and response to treatment
• Administer medications, treatments, and other therapies safely
• Provide appropriate care for patients requiring ventilator support
• Recognize and promptly respond to changes in patient condition
• Collaborate with physicians, PCA/technicians, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in EPIC
• Prioritize care effectively while managing a 1:9 patient assignment
• Delegate appropriate tasks to support staff and provide appropriate oversight
• Promote patient safety, comfort, and quality outcomes

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical RN experience
• EPIC experience – Required
• Current New York RN License – Required
• BLS – Required
• COVID-19 vaccination – Required
• Strong clinical assessment and organizational skills
• Ability to safely manage a 1:9 nurse-to-patient ratio

Schedule & Requirements

• 12-hour shifts
• Weekend requirement: Yes

• Call/Standby: None
• Travelers may be required to float between Medical-Surgical units based on staffing and operational needs
• Candidates must confirm at submission that they are comfortable working with a 1:9 nurse-to-patient ratio

Orientation

• 2 days of unit-specific orientation
• Orientation is designed to familiarize travelers with unit workflow, EPIC documentation, policies, procedures, and patient-care expectations.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a confident and adaptable Med/Surg RN who can efficiently prioritize care for a high patient assignment while maintaining strong clinical standards. Experience with EPIC, ventilator patients, orthopedic care, and general Medical-Surgical nursing will be valuable in this role.
