Shift Matrix: Night Shift | 19:00 – 07:00 (3x12-Hour Shifts)

• Schedule Quality: 36 hours per week. Self-scheduling; every other weekend (EOW) required. Block scheduling is not available.
• Holiday Policy: Must work a minimum of 2 holidays per 13-week contract.
• On-Call Requirement: On-call rotation required.

• Float Requirement: Candidate must float within clinical scope across PCU/Telemetry units if overstaffed.

  Guaranteed Hours: 36 Hours Per Week

🚫 Absolute Minimum Qualifications & Departmental Hardstops:

• Licensure Mandate: Active, unencumbered Virginia State RN License or active eNLC Compact RN License held in hand at submission.
• Experience Baseline: Minimum 2+ years of acute care PCU / Step-Down experience (requisition overview requires 2 years; Level I Trauma experience preferred).
• Mandatory Systems: Epic EMR proficiency is strictly required.
• Required Certifications:
  • Active AHA BLS
  • Active AHA ACLS (Preferred)
• Local Candidates Policy: Local candidates accepted at the same base bill rate; no travel radius restriction enforced.
• Return Staff Policy: Former permanent staff or travelers must be gone for a minimum of 1 year before returning as a traveler.
• Facility Policies: Strict adherence to VCU's Natural Nail Policy.

Job Summary & Clinical Scope

A hospital in Richmond, VA is seeking an experienced Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse (PCU RN) for a 13-week night assignment in the Acute Care Surgery PCU (Unit CC100260). Operating within a 28-bed Level I Trauma Center unit with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio, the RN will direct intermediate care for high-acuity surgical populations.

• Specialized Surgical & Procedural PCU Care: Manage complex acute surgical patients, including those undergoing Bariatric Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Plastic/Microsurgery, Urological Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Whipple procedures, and Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC).
• Advanced Clinical Interventions: Execute Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI), free flap monitoring, leech therapy, central line management, and complex wound care.
• Hemodynamic & Cardiac Monitoring: Continuous cardiac telemetry monitoring, recognition and management of dysrhythmias, IV therapy/phlebotomy, and rapid response interventions.
• Specialized Environment: Operate within specialized negative pressure and temperature-controlled warm rooms as clinically indicated for surgical flap recovery.
