Shift Notes
7p-7a, weekends as needed, first to float
ICU — Nampa Hospital, 1st Floor
- Department: ICU
- Beds: 10
- Typical RN ratio: 1:2
- Orientation: 1–2 shifts, depending on experience
- First-time travelers: Accepted
- Minimum experience: 1 year
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Scrubs: Any color; clean and professional
Patient Population
Common ICU patients include:
- Heart failure
- Respiratory failure
- Sepsis
- Ventilated patients
- GI bleeds
- Strokes/TPA
- Post-code patients
- Pneumonia
- Post-surgical complications
- CRRT patients — travelers will not take CRRT assignments
There are no specialty surgeries; post-op patients come to ICU when complications require ICU-level care.
Drips & ICU Skills
RNs are expected to titrate drips. Common medications include:
- Propofol
- Levophed
- Dobutamine
- Vasopressin
- Fentanyl
- Epinephrine
- Diltiazem
RNs are also responsible for reading cardiac strips because there are no dedicated telemetry/monitor techs. The unit uses Spacelabs.
Staffing & Support
- Charge RN: Each shift; does not take patients
- Admin Supervisor: On site 24/7
- Crisis Nurse: Available 24/7
- Hospitalist: On site 24/7
- Intensivist: Available 24/7 via tele
