Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Respiratory Therapist (RT) to join the Respiratory Therapy department at STM. The ideal candidate should be comfortable caring for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients, with strong neonatal experience in Bubble CPAP and ventilator management.

• Orientation: Clinicians must be physically in-state for the entire week of orientation, even if the first day includes remote modules.

Department Details

• Department: Respiratory Therapy – STM
• Approximate Treatments per Day: 10–30
• Patient Population: Primarily adults, with pediatric and neonatal patients also served
• Areas Covered:

Required Qualifications & Certifications

• RRT or CRT accepted
• BLS – Required
• ACLS – Required
• PALS – Required
• NRP – Required
• Strong neonatal respiratory care experience
• Bubble CPAP and ventilator experience with neonates – Required

Key Responsibilities

• Provide respiratory care to adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients.
• Manage and monitor patients requiring mechanical ventilation and non-invasive respiratory support.
• Demonstrate competency with neonatal Bubble CPAP and ventilators.
• Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) draws.
• Perform EKGs as required.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive respiratory care.
• Respond to respiratory emergencies and changes in patient condition.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and follow department protocols.
• Respiratory Therapists are not required to independently intubate or assist with intubation as an independent requirement for this assignment.

• Ventilators: Puritan Bennett 980
• CPAP/BiPAP: C1 Hamilton
• High-Flow Humidification: AirVo and Vapotherm
• Bubble CPAP: Fisher & Paykel

Staffing & Scheduling

• Shift: Night shift
• Self-Scheduling: Not available
• During night shift, the assigned RT may be the only therapist in-house, with a second therapist available on call.
• Weekend Coverage: Saturday, Sunday, and Monday nights
• Holiday Coverage: Required
• Call Requirement: Approximately 4 days per month
• Call Response Time: 1 hour

Leadership & Clinical Support

• Respiratory Manager and Lead Therapist available
• Hospitalist: In-house
• Department-specific preceptors are available for orientation and training

Floating

• No routine floating outside Respiratory Therapy
• In the event of an extreme staffing need, floating may occur within Zone 1, including:
  • PEN
  • SFH
  • SFI
  • SMC
  • STM

Orientation

• Department-specific orientation provided
• Dedicated preceptors are available to support orientation and clinical integration.

Dress Code

• Solid-colored scrubs
• Any scrub color is acceptable.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a confident Respiratory Therapist with strong acute-care experience and demonstrated competency across adult, pediatric, and neonatal populations. Neonatal Bubble CPAP and ventilator experience is essential, along with the ability to work independently during night shifts while collaborating effectively with the broader clinical team.
