A hospital-based cardiothoracic surgery program in Lexington, Kentucky, is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant for locum tenens coverage.

The Physician Assistant will support cardiothoracic surgeons in the operating room and provide inpatient coverage across telemetry and intensive care settings. Candidates must have recent cardiothoracic surgical experience and be proficient in first assisting with CABG, aortic valve replacement, mitral valve replacement, thoracotomy, and lung-resection procedures.

Assignment Details

• Inpatient and operating room setting

• PRN locum tenens coverage

• Monday through Friday day shifts, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

• Night call, 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

• Weekend 24-hour call coverage

• Approximately one to two call days per week

• Approximately one weekend per month

• Epic EMR

• Approximately one to two surgeries per day

• Ongoing coverage dates may become available

Clinical Responsibilities

• First assist in cardiothoracic surgical cases

• CABG procedures

• Aortic valve replacement

• Mitral valve replacement

• Thoracotomy and lung-resection cases

• Vein harvesting

• Chest tube placement

• Inpatient rounding

• Telemetry and ICU coverage

• Call and callback coverage

• Direct support for cardiothoracic surgeons

Candidate Requirements

• Certified Physician Assistant

• Board certification required

• Active Kentucky license highly preferred

• Candidates willing to obtain a Kentucky license may be considered

• Current ACLS certification

• Current BLS certification

• Active DEA registration

• Proficiency in required cardiothoracic procedures

• Ability to complete facility credentialing

• Clean malpractice history preferred

Credentialing is expected to require approximately 90–110 days. Temporary or emergency privileges are not available.

Local candidates are preferred. Candidates requiring travel should provide their originating city and disclose any anticipated travel exceptions before presentation.
