Cath Lab RN – Job Requirements & Unit Information

Department: Cath Lab RN
Contract: 13 Weeks
Orientation: 1 Week, including on-call buddy call

Candidate Requirements

• Minimum 3+ years of hospital-based Cardiac Cath Lab and/or Interventional Radiology (IR) experience
• Required certifications:
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NIHSS
• Valid Driver’s License required at submission. License will be used to verify compliance with the 50-mile radius requirement.
• Candidates must be prepared to work in a versatile Cath Lab/IR environment and assist with emergent STEMI cases.
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient-care departments. Refusal to comply will result in termination of the contract.

Unit Information

• Number of Suites/Labs: 3
• Average Cases: 4–5 per day
• Primary Procedures/Diagnoses: Compression fractures, venous access, hydronephrosis, chest pain, pulmonary hypertension (PHTN), shortness of breath (SOB), gastric ulcers, pulmonary embolism (PE), and deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
• Primary Responsibilities: Intra-procedural circulating, supply management, medication administration, and procedural sedation
• EMR/Equipment: EPIC / Apollo cardiac charting
• Cath Lab Technicians: 3
• Leadership: Supervisor available; charge/supervisor may take an assignment as needed

Schedule & Call Requirements

• Regular Cardiologist Hours: Monday–Friday, 0700–1600
• On-Call: 1600–0700 weekdays; 0730–0730 weekends
• Scheduling: Supervisor approval required; self-scheduling/block scheduling not guaranteed
• Minimum Weeknight/Call Requirement: 10 shifts
• Weekend Requirement: Minimum 2 weekends — 1 IR and 1 Cardiac
• Holiday Requirement: Yes
• Call Response Time: Within 30 minutes from IMC; ASAP for LKS/MCB/Bergan
• Floating: Required as needed, including daily and on-call assignments

Additional Unit Information

This is a highly versatile lab that primarily performs Interventional Radiology procedures, with cardiac inpatient add-ons. The team must be prepared to manage emergent STEMI cases and stabilize patients requiring advanced support, including IABP.

Orientation & Competency

• RN candidates will complete a Pass/Fail exam on Friday during orientation.
• The exam is open book and covers skills taught during orientation.
• All necessary resources will be provided.
• A minimum score of 90% is required to pass. Failure to achieve 90% will result in termination.

Radius & Employment Restrictions

• 50-mile radius rule applies.
• Candidate's driver's license will be used to determine distance from the facility.
• Candidates cannot currently be full-time, part-time, or PRN employees with any facility affiliated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity Health.

Time-Off (RTO) Policy

• All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted upfront with the candidate submission.
