ER RN Position Details
Unit: Emergency Room (ER)
Number of Beds: 31
Experience Required: Minimum 2 years of ER/Trauma experience.
Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS or ENPC. Moderate Conscious Sedation competency testing is also required.
Ratios: 1:3–4.
Schedule: 12-hour shifts. Day/Mid shift start times include 7:00 AM, 9:00 AM, 10:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 12:00 PM, and 1:00 PM. Night shift start times include 3:00 PM, 5:00 PM, and 7:00 PM. Travelers must be flexible with shift start times.
Weekend and Holiday Requirement: Every other weekend. Travelers must work 2 of the 3 holidays during the holiday season.
Scrub Color: Navy.
Support Staff: Charge Nurse and Unit Secretary are available. Paramedics assist with IV starts, IV fluids, discharges, and tech duties. CNAs assist with tech duties.
Physician Coverage: 2–6 physicians and 2–4 mid-level providers are in-house.
Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7.
Pharmacy: Available 24/7. An ER Pharmacist is available during daytime hours, 5 days per week.
Equipment: GE Lifepak monitors. Ventilators include Puritan Bennett 840, Dräger, Vision BiPAP, and V60.
Floating: Travelers may float between the Gilbert and Chandler ER locations, which are approximately 7 miles or 15 minutes apart. Mid-shift floating may also be required.
Orientation: 2–3 days of floor-specific orientation. A Pass/Fail Sim Lab is required on Day 1 of orientation, and study guides will be provided with the first-day instructions.
Dysrhythmia Exam: Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam is required 24–48 hours prior to position acceptance. A maximum of 2 attempts is allowed.
Common Patient Population: MVA and trauma patients, GSWs, CVA/stroke patients, MI/cardiac patients, high-risk OB patients, psychiatric holds, cardioversions, and patients requiring conscious sedation for closed fractures.
Pediatric Population: Approximately 11%. Patients age 15 and younger are stabilized and transferred.
Radius Rule: Candidates must meet the 50-mile radius requirement and may not currently be employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity.
