Responsibilities

• Provide perioperative nursing care in a General Operating Room within a Level I Trauma acute-care facility.
• Work in an OR department with 9 regular rooms, 1 trauma room, and 1 urgent room.
• Circulate surgical procedures and maintain patient safety throughout the operative process.
• Scrub for procedures when qualified and assigned.
• Care for approximately 30 surgical cases per day across multiple specialties.
• Participate in cases including:
  • General surgery
  • Orthopedics
  • Orthopedic trauma
  • Robotics
  • Plastics
  • Trauma
  • ENT
  • Spine
  • Urology
  • Gynecology
  • Neonatal procedures
  • High-risk C-sections
  • Donor procedures
  • Hand surgery
  • Eye procedures, occasionally
• Provide appropriate perioperative care for trauma and high-acuity surgical cases.
• Assist with and maintain strict sterile technique during procedures.
• Perform Foley catheter insertion while maintaining the sterile field.
• Complete required SIMs Lab competency testing during orientation.
• Participate in education related to lifts, restraints, and wound care.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiology, CSTs, nurses, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and other surgical personnel.
• Document perioperative care accurately using Cerner and SurgiNet.
• Respond appropriately to trauma and urgent surgical cases.
• Provide safe patient positioning, surgical preparation, counts, specimen handling, and postoperative handoff according to facility policy.
• Take call as assigned: one call shift per week and one weekend per month.
• Float to Lithotripsy when qualified and assist at designated affiliated campuses when needed.
• Work the scheduled Sunday–Tuesday overnight shifts, 6:30 PM–7:00 AM.
