Lab Cytologist – Travel/Contract Assignment

Location: Urbana, IL
Department: Cytology
Duration: 13 weeks
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 5×8-hour shifts
Hours: 40 hours per week

 

Responsibilities

• Screen gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology specimens for evidence of cancer or other pathological conditions.
• Identify and mark abnormal findings, render diagnoses within the scope of practice, and determine cases requiring quality control or pathologist review.
• Perform quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and regulatory requirements.
• Evaluate specimen acceptability and ensure compliance with testing requirements.
• Participate in the collection, processing, and immediate evaluation of Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) specimens.
• Perform rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) using a telepathology system.
• Apply appropriate specimen processing techniques to meet laboratory requirements.
• Maintain accurate and efficient laboratory testing practices.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or completion of a Cytotechnology program with a certificate of completion.
• ASCP Cytologist (CT) certification.
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Strong organizational skills.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.

• Monday–Friday
• 5 shifts per week, 8 hours per shift
• 40 hours per week
• No holidays; occasional weekends may be required.
